summer account.

Okay~ so I haven’t blogged in such a long while (I primarily blame plurk for that). XD So what have I been up to this summer…? I’ve basically spent my summer wasting away relaxing.

I’d gone away for vacation to Iloilo and Bacolod for ten days, visiting my mother-side and father-side cousins last April 27-May 7. It was a last-minute suggestion by my dad, since my cousin Jath was graduating from college, and Jath’s family was attending the graduation ceremony in Iloilo. My dad wanted my sister to go, too, but she couldn’t file a leave just several days before the actual trip, so I had to go alone. So I booked a one-way Manila- Iloilo ticket  with Cebu Pacific, then a Bacolod-Manila with PAL just the day before I was supposed to leave. I managed to write a quick account of the trip in my multiply albums.

So there, that’s one of the major things that happened. Another was my progress in thesis. A month has passed me by without doing anything. There had been no update from Dela Rosa, as to the status of her being 4-1’s adviser or not. And so I dared not to do anything about my thesis. Well, at least not until I met  Christina at Nitz around the 2nd week of April. She was doing a new thesis proposal, and I must say that made me realize how I’ve been slacking off. I didn’t work at all at Archt. Clemeña’s office, so I’ve been quite unproductive this summer. No goals about portfolio-making have been set either. >_< So that was my wake-up call regarding thesis. I brought some reading materials for my thesis while in Iloilo, so I managed to get a bit of reading done. I still have tons more to read. But I’ve been getting a few good insights, if I may say so. At least I’ve moved from the 5% progress (from thesis proposal) to 6%. XD hahaha. Well, at least I’m getting somewhere. I’ve asked my siblings as to where I can put my library, and my older brother suggested Fort Bonifacio, one of my primary options for the site selection. I’m sure there are far more better places to place a library, but at the moment that’s the only not-so-populated place I could think of. XD

A third thing that I’m so happy about this summer is the Palawan trip. I haven’t done a quick account of it. since I haven’t uploaded any of the pics. I plan to upload, of course, I took so many pictures while on that 3 day-2 night trip. I went with my dad, my ahia, my achi, Di-ko and Cay (slash Eucs, as his friend Arvin calls him). Yet another last-minute plan. But at least I didn’t go alone. XD It was such a pleasant treat for me, since I love travelling. Basically what I loved most about the trip was the snorkelling experience at Dos Palmas. I admit not knowing how to swim, so I was a bit hesitant on snorkelling. But the lifevest and the snorkelling instructor helped me get through the fear of sinking/drowning. hahaha. It was a unique experience, despite the corals not being as pretty as the ones seen on tv. But hey, it could just be the lighting, or the snorkelling site location. Or it could just be my damaged eyes. I wasn’t wearing any glasses or contact lens while snorkelling, so I couldn’t see things very clearly. But I did see the corals and the fishes. Most of the fishes I saw had black stripes, there were also blues ones and green ones. XD They were swimming so near the corals, but I couldn’t get close since I don’t know how to dive. XD Anyway, it was a cool and fun experience, I hope I get to do that again soon. ^.^v

geek quiz.

geek

Got the quiz link from one of my plurk friends. XD I’m in one of my procrastination sessions again, just so I don’t worry too much about my school assignments. Been slacking off for over two weeks now, so I’m cramming on all my projects tonight. x.x

last few days of freedom.

Whee. I was planning not to blog during the sembreak, but here I am blogging again. Well, I just wanted to share that after the postponement of Monopoly Night (twice, if I remember correctly), we’re finally going to have it tomorrow. Yay for All Souls’ Day holiday. haha. I’ve seen Frances, Hsiao, and Regine recently, but the others I haven’t seen since… last summer and last Christmas. haha. Oh dear, I forgot to prepare snacks I wish to bring on occasions like tomorrow… I could make granola bars tomorrow, but I’ve run out of rice crispies. T.T I’ve been forgetful for the past two weeks of pure rest. hahaha. And unlike previous sembreaks I’ve had, I actually am not yet anxious for another semester. Another semester means my deadline to think on what to do for thesis is getting close. x.x

Just plugging something before I end this short entry. Jubilee Evangelical Church will be having its annual Praise Night, entitled Lifesong. It will be held this Friday (October 31), at the JEC main sanctuary, 7pm. ^.^v Hope to see you there~!

Twilight saga.

I finally finished reading all four books~! XD I was supposed to be done last Sunday, but I’d copied The Host on my MMC instead of Breaking Dawn, thus halting my reading of the book. I read half of the fourth book that evening, then I went on to other e-books. I sort of procrastinated reading the rest, like I was in denial that the saga was about to end. haha. I went fast-track on reading the remaining half, since I’m off to SM in a while, but the ending of the saga still got me giddy. haha. The fourth book told of a story that I never dreamed of happening, but Stephenie Meyer pulled it off quite nicely. The conflicts at the beginning of the book were neatly resolved at the end. I must say, I admire Stephenie Meyer for weaving such a nice love story between Edward and Bella. The way she described the characters was unlike anything I’ve encountered when reading. Reading the books definitely made me feel like I was in a dream myself, seeing everything through Bella’s eyes.

Of all the four books, I liked Eclipse and Breaking Dawn the best. The latter own showed how strong the bond was between Edward and Bella, and I appreciate Edward’s qualities, his personality towards Bella. I soooo love that. I am neither expecting nor hoping that I’d meet someone with Edward’s perfect personality. And as what I’ve heard, It’s not about meeting and loving a perfect person—it’s loving an imperfect person perfectly. I’d already met someone who’s the epitome of my ideal person, and that alone is enough for me. I don’t have the right to wish or hope for more than that. Living my life as I’m supposed to live it is my motivation to keep on going, I can’t let my feelings for that person rule my life. Breaking Dawn came to me as a total surprise, with the serious conflicts within the Cullen family. I’d have to say I admire the commitment and love in the Cullen family. The extent of one was willing to do for the family took me aback, when all was revealed at the end.

Ack. Too much critical thoughts, I’ll have to stop my entry or I might reveal more spoilers. lol.

anicon hangover.

hahaha. I still can’t believe AniCON’s really over. Photos from the event have already been uploaded; people said the event was great and successful. Parang nabitin ako or something. haha. The last time I volunteered for an event was Ozinefest, which was a 2-day affair. XD

I was quite surprised when it got crowded outside the matsuri area where I was stationed. XD Cosplay corner was crowded as well, with a lot of people taking photos of the cosplayers. I find the cosplayers at the event to be good. There were fewer cosplayers, but the costumes were simply great. It was quality over quantity this time around. ^.^v I really liked the Priss Asagiri cosplayer, the costume was amazing. haha.

I’ve heard the Maid Cafe did well, but I didn’t get to really see the maids at work, there wasn’t enough room in the booth for me to stand and watch. lol. The maids were really cute, especially in costume~! ❤

What I liked about the AniCON was the design of the stage, the space was definitely allotted for the band instruments and the judges’ table for the cosplay, so mecha cosplayers didn’t need to go climb the stairs to go onstage. The downside was that there was a limited view of the cosplayers, since they were not elevated. >.< I wasn’t able to watch any part of the cosplay, except on video clips, so I didn’t know how the winners of the cosplay looked like. hehehe.

The booth wherein I was stationed was great, and the messages posted on the plurk booth was certainly read out loud by the hosts. They even came over to the matsuri to read the plurks, not just waiting for us to send them the notes. The living dolls in yukatas (waah, sorry I forgot to ask about your real names T.T) were very much into their work. They were smiling even though they felt tired. I ❤ my fellow booth-mates, Iffy and Paopei. I’m not very people-oriented, so I was hesitant with speaking to people. XD Iffy and Pao’s initiatives made me want to be more active in promoting the booth.

What I did notice about the matsuri booth was that, it was too enclosed that people could not see what’s inside until they peek though the open doorway. The pro to that is it’s not so crowded as what’s outside the matsuri. XD And that it wasn’t dark at all in our area. From the uploaded photos I’ve seen that the convention area lacked enough lighting. There were some spots that definitely needed more light. But I forgot to see what kind of lights they were using for the hall, so it could be just me being overly-critical. haha.

I’m not so much of a gamer, so I didn’t really explore the booths with console gaming. I saw the pinoyPSP booth, but I don’t have a psp, so I skipped visiting that booth–even though I wanted to. I was on a short break from manning the booth, so I couldn’t really go around and see everything. T.T

Hmm… what else to say… oh yes, I read someone’s blog last night. And the entry was not so nice at all. It contained criticisms (only a small part of it was constructive), and I believe a lot of people were offended by his comments. Comments to his blog entry was closed, and his multiply blog suddenly became private, so there’s no place where I can vent out and give him a piece of my mind except my own blog, so I’ll rant here. If you’re not interested in reading my rant, you may stop reading now. This will be the last part of my entry anyway. XD People say to just ignore whoever wrote that blog entry, but since no one (so far) have been so detailed and overly opinionated in their response to the entry, I’m afraid I shall have to write something about it.

Okay. That was a really long message, and I’m surprised you took the time to really be specific as to who you’re referring to. At least there will be no confusions on who you’re insulting. Oh, that’s my first comment on your “criticisms.” I know each person is entitled to their own opinion, you’ve said that yourself. But you didn’t have to say what you feel in an insulting manner. Insinuating that people lacked knowledge (and wisdom) is simply an attack to one’s character. Perhaps you’d like me to attack you in a similar manner?

Hmm, oh right.”Pearched” is not a word. That’s according to an online dictionary. That’s the first grammatical error I noticed while reading your blog. I’m quite particular with grammar and spellings, so please bear with me. Have you, by any chance, invented that word specially for your entry? I write my entries directly on wordpress wherein there’s no spellchecker. But at least I know what I’m talking about when I write. I, at least, know how to put punctuation marks and correct spelling. If I’m not sure on how a certain word is spelled, I check the dictionary. Or bettter yet, I try to find a term that’s easier to understand. I looked up that “pearched” word in the online dictionary. The response I got was, “No results found for pearched: Did you mean parched (in dictionary) or Poached (in reference)?” Now what exactly were you thinking when you used that word? Was it parched? Perched? What? So now you probably know what it feels when people insult your knowledge (and wisdom).

Second point. The selling point was not the cosplay. Did you see the posters for the con? Did you see any picture of a cosplayer? Better think twice than to accuse the organizers of making cosplay the selling point of the con. I trust you are one of the people who reads the title, then looks at the photos before reading the details? Have you noticed that the cosplay wasn’t the first thing mentioned? And what’s wrong if people came to see the cosplay event? You can’t expect each visitor to see every booth. It’s their choice if they want to see the cosplay or not. Even from my station I could hear the hosts publicly advertising the gaming booths. Wasn’t that enough for you? Guess not.

Enough crap with that “same old organizers.” You can’t seriously be thinking that each event should have a different organizer. Of course the organizers have to be the same. You can’t expect a newbie to setup a big convention like that. You’ll need someone experienced in the field. Have you tried organizing an event? I suggest you try it before you say more. Perhaps people wouldn’t quote your “same old organizers.” Oh, and FYI. The organizers didn’t just plan the convention for their pleasure or for personal interests. The objective for the con was to provide an event wherein people with similar interests can get together. Isn’t that what you were doing in your booth? I collect you’ve met up with fellow psp gamers? Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that a mere “hang-out” as well? By the way, you’re complaining that the organizers didn’t come to you and ask how you’re doing; didn’t it ever occur to you to ask for the welfare of the organizers themselves? Your comment about them not asking if you needed help seems a bit selfish to me.

Next point. How could you compare the booth arrangement to a wet market? If you’re referring to the grid-type setting, almost all cons have that setup. Exhibits are like that. If you’re annoyed or just tired of that arrangement, just tell me and I’ll do a floor plan for you with extreme curves as your walkways. Let’s see if you don’t get dizzy going around in circles. And how ironic of you to say that a big space was allotted for your units, and then you say “The place was too small for us this time?” I am so tempted to laugh at that. But I won’t. Just not yet. Lack of seats? Are you referring to seats for the visitors or merely for the people in your booth? I’ve yet to see a convention wherein seats are provided specifically for visitors. And no, it is not the organizers’ fault if someone decides to grab your chair to use it as a platform when taking photos. That’s how desperate photographers can get.

So you think the organizers didn’t do their research? Research on what? You ought to be extremely particular as to what you’re talking about, dude. Even I can’t understand what you’re referring to. But I’ll assume you’re talking about research that your game is supposed to be online, and that you say there wasn’t an internet connection. Oh I assure you, the organizers know there’s supposed to be an internet connection. They wouldn’t advertise it as an con with online games if they didn’t. Maybe you’d like to do your own research on how difficult it is to organize a convention as big as AniCON, as well as how annoying it is to read criticisms (of which, as I’ve mentioned, constructive criticisms are very few). And by saying that they don’t give a d*** about the convention, have you ever thought why would they even bother to make one anyway? I say, do your research on that.

Tsk tsk. You didn’t get to meet up with fellow gamers? And you accuse the organizers of making the con as a venue for meeting up and hanging out with friends? How hypocritical of you.

For your advice for a “successful Anime/Game convention,” (your words, not mine) they will most probably be remembered and noted. I have to agree on some points, but most of the advice seems to be misplaced.

Suggest a bigger space? I think the organizers would’ve done that if they could. But they had to make do with what they had. And they did the best they could do at that time. Again, if you wanted additional seating, please specify as to seats for whom. And from what I know, the plastics chairs were rented or something. If you’re referring to the lack of seats for you and your friends, there’s ample floor space for you to sit on. Or if you’re much too delicate that you can’t sit on the floor, you should’ve brought your own chair. Or is it your first time to be in a booth with a limited number of chairs? You could’ve asked your friend to graciously lend you his seat so that you can rest? If you’re venting out concern for the lack of seats for booth visitors, then I shall rant no further about that. If you shall press on the issue about makeshift benches, I ask you: where will you put the benches after the convention? I think the organizers don’t wish to bring home any unnecessary “leftovers” from the convention. And makeshift benches are exactly that.

I quote, “Get a host that actually KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.” I nearly laughed at this comment. I would if I weren’t so irritated at your blog entry. Are you any better than him? Could you be a host for a convention and instantly know everything about games or anime? Can you even name all of the games created for PS3? I doubt you can, unless you have a flash card in your hands.

Hmph. Another ironic comment of yours. You say you don’t expect any, but you think a letter of thanks is needed to make you feel you were appreciated? It’s either you’ve gone mad that you don’t know what you’re saying, or you simply can’t properly and effectively express in words what you really think.

Oh dear, more emphasis on gaming? Are you blind? Most of the gaming booths are located dead center of the venue, haven’t you noticed that? Outside Megatrade Hall 3, the first thing you see are the computers. That’s not giving focus on anime. And what exactly do you mean by “the importance of gaming in the country more than ever?” What is the importance of it in a person’s life, anyway? If you think it so important to the country, then by all means, enlighten me about it. I’d love to hear about what you’d like to say. And please remember what the name AniCON means. There can’t be emphasis on games when the convention’s meant to exhibit anime, console games, and online games. If you want a convention to be strictly-games only, then appeal to a different person or company about it. Or, as people say, set up your own convention if you like. We’d love to visit your convention. =)

Yet again, please be specific to what you’re talking about. Technical know-how on what? Computers? Architecture? Medicine? The word technical is used in many fields, you know. Oh, before I forget. There’s also no such word as conjour. Is that a French word, or do you mean conjure?

There that should be enough ranting for now. I’ll add more when I have time.

updates.

It’s been a long time since my last post… I just couldn’t get away from all the assignments last week to write a short entry. >.< There are still so many things I need to do, but I just thought of blogging this morning before I start my projects. There are so many things I want to thank God for, even though things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to. First of all, I’m thankful that I passed my last AS quiz….75% (which is the passing mark). Out of two questions, I was able to answer one. haha. And I didn’t really need to copy my notes during that open-notes quiz. What was annoying during that time was that the professor assumed I was cheating–I was looking over at my seatmate’s notes because he was irritating me, asking me questions whether his notes were correct or not. And the professor saw me looking through my classmate’s notes. Like, duh, as if I needed to cheat from someone who didn’t even know which notes he needed to start answering the problem. Anyway, I still got the 25 points for one problem… the other—I forgot that the beam was cantilevered, and I used the wrong formula. But nevermind, I never really studied for that quiz. I did, but I wasn’t sure if I covered everything while I reviewed. Seems like I didn’t. XD

Next is the PLN project, in which we’ve just finished reporting last Thursday. Now that was a great load off my mind. Considering I wrote much data there and had Oli compile it while I was at the Ozine office for the weekend, I feel very relieved that we managed to complete it despite the lack of information at some point. People are telling me leave out my groupmates’ names in the final output, and I said I’d think about it. But there was nothing to think about, I couldn’t do that with my groupmates who had at least gone with me to the site. All they needed was a little big push, to do what they need to contribute.

LARCH group project was similar to PLN, description and analysis of the site we chose for our PLN project. This turned out a little easier although we had to go to the site again last Sunday for photographs. XD The output turned out fine, I guess.

Hmm, what else… the PP project is what I’m still working on. I’m still far from finished, just because I lack the text that I need to put in the brochure. >.< Well, I’ll have to finish the layout right away, otherwise I can’t work on my Design plans and LARCH Beato project. o.O

Well, gotta go back to work. It’ll be a really loooong day today.

trust His heart.

Ever since I discovered my cousin’s clearbook with praise and worship lyrics in it, I couldn’t keep this song off my head for days. I can’t remember the first time I heard this song, but after the things I’ve been through this week, I feel so much comfort whenever I hear this song. Links lead to my the imeem stream page. Embedding from imeem doesn’t quite work for wordpress. T.T

Trust His Heart – Babbie Mason

Verse 1:
All things work for our good, though sometimes we don’t see how they could
Struggles that break our hearts in two sometimes blinds us to the truth
Our Father knows what best for us, His ways are not our own
So when your pathway grows dim and you just don’t see Him, remember you’re never alone

Chorus:
God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don’t understand when you don’t see His plan
When you can’t trace His hand trust His heart, trust His heart

Verse 2:
He sees the master plan and He holds our future in His hand
So don’t live as those who have no hope, for our hope is found in Him
We see the present clearly but He sees the first and the last
And like a tapestry He’s weaving you and me to someday be just like Him

Chorus:
God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don’t understand when you don’t see His plan
When you can’t trace His hand trust His heart, trust His heart

He alone is faithful and true
He alone knows what’s best for you

opinion.

I find it exceedingly annoying when groupmates aren’t exerting any bit of effort into the proejct. I hope one of those groupmates of mine realize what’s at stake here. I consider myself fairly tolerant of many things, but pretend incompetence is not one of those. There are limits to what we can and cannot do; I know the feeling of being incompetent in some aspects, so don’t go saying you’ve got an IQ of 10 or 50 or whatever, because you wouldn’t have reached fourth year college if that is so. And no, copying assignments from classmates is not good enough an answer.

I’m so sick and so tired of having to try to motivate you and other people to at least participate in the project. I’m not a genius with an IQ of 200 who can complete a group project by myself. I’m merely an average student struggling to get decent grades. And unlike some people I know, we’re not so wealthy that I can afford to drop some subjects, only to take it during the summer. You’ve never worried on whether your parents have the funds to send you to school or not. Or wishing that you can help with the finances by working part-time someplace. You’ve never had relatives who look down on you, thinking they’re way better than you just because they’re well-to-do. And thus I exert as much effort as I can in my academics, just to prove to myself and to everyone else that money is the only way to get through everything. And I’m sure you’ve never experienced crying because of almost-failing grades. By the way you speak of yourself, I got the impression that nobody in your family expects you to get high grades. So why don’t you try to excel in your academics? As I always tell you–prove to everyone (and to yourself, as well) that you can do better than what people think you can do. It doesn’t hurt to try, you know. You don’t lose anything, but you can gain a lot when you do well in school. Don’t settle for passing marks when you can pass the subject with flying colors. And group project means it’s a group effort. It’s never done by only one person. If you want to fail, then go ahead—just don’t bring other people down in the pit with you. And don’t you dare tell me the  ‘go ahead and let me fail’ crap. I’ve had enough of that from you and other people.

I don’t care if you’ll take my message as an insult, I’m just stating the facts and what I honestly think of it. For once in your life, reflect on what I’m saying and respond accordingly. I’m not your family that I can tell you what you can and cannot do, but as a concerned classmate and friend, I’m giving you a challenge so that you can improve yourself.
